Prince
Harry and Meghan Markle marry in ceremony that united tradition and
modernity
Celebration
was filled with celebrities. As announced recently,
Meghan was taken to the altar by her father-in-law
Charles, since her father could not travel to
England
Prince
Harry and American actress Meghan Markle were
married on Saturday (19/5) in St. George's Chapel
at Windsor Castle. With this, Meghan is the newest
plebeian to become a member of the British
royalty, realizing the link that in recent weeks
has taken hold of the news worldwide. Crowded with
celebrities, the thrilling ceremony mixed
traditional and modern elements.
The
Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, spiritual
leader of the Anglican Church, took the marriage
vows of the newlyweds, who spent much of the
ceremony hand in hand. Michael Curry, the
presiding bishop of the US Episcopal Church,
delivered a sermon on love and quoted black
activist Martin Luther King. The ceremony had
several exciting moments, such as the sermon of
the American Bishop Michael Curry and the version
of the song "Stand By Me" sung by a
gospel choir.
Bride
entrance
After
the controversy caused by the absence of her
father Thomas Markle, Meghan entered the chapel
alone, accompanied by ten children who paired
bridesmaids and pages, including Prince George and
Princess Charlotte, sons of Prince William and
Kate Middleton .
Meghan's
father recently underwent heart surgery. The
medical claim was made after Thomas gained
prominence in the papers when being discovered for
accepting to be photographed by a paparazzo in
exchange for money.
With
Thomas's absence, Prince Charles - Harry and
William's father - took Meghan to the altar. She
clung to her father-in-law, Prince Charles, only
in the final meters.
Wishes
SFollowing
the tradition begun with Princess Diana in 1981,
Meghan decided not to utter the word "obey"
of traditional wedding vows. In English,
traditional vows for women often cite "love,
cherish and obey" (love, care and obey, in
Portuguese). Meghan just said "love and
cherish" (love and care). This is already
common in UK marriages, but in relation to the
royal family the choice may be considered modern.
Feminist,
Meghan defends the equality of rights between men
and women and is representative of UN Women, arm
of the United Nations for the promotion of gender
equality.
Formed
in communication, she also held for three years a
lifestyle blog called "The Tig",
dedicated to women's issues.
Parade
in carriage
After
the wedding in the chapel, the now Duke and
Duchess of Sussex, left the church and entered an
open carriage to greet the thousands of people who
accompanied the ceremony on big screens.
Tiara
and dress
Meghan

Clare Waight Keller, artistic director of the
French brand Givenchy, with a veil, canoe neckline
and hair with a tiara, while Harry wore his
military uniform.
The
diamond tiara used by Meghan was Queen Mary, which
was given to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth
II. The accessory was made in 1932 in the United
Kingdom, with the central clasp dating to 1893.
The earrings and the bracelet of the bride were
Cartier.
The
veil is five meters long and is made of silk tulle
with flowers embroidered by hand in silk and
organza yarns. The bouquet of flowers was
elaborated by florist Philippa Craddock and
includes some flowers from the private garden of
Kensington Palace, which will now house Meghan.
The
bride went to church on board a Rolls-Royce
Phantom IV, alongside her mother Doria Ragland.
Invited

Elton John, TV presenter Oprah Winfrey, actors

Also
attending the ceremony were Cressida Bonas and
Chelsy Davy, Harry's ex-girlfriends. The cousins
??of Prince Harry Eugenie and Beatrice, who dared
with extravagant hats at William's wedding in
2011, were more "contained" at the
ceremony.
Private
party
After
the carriage ride before the public begins the
private part of the wedding, with a lunch offered
by Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle and an evening
party at the Frogmore mansion, gift from the
father of the groom, Prince Charles.
In
the streets of every country were organized
parties and the day will end with the long awaited
concession that allows pubs to function later than
usual.
The
big event was surrounded by many security measures
in the country, which suffered five attacks in
2017, with a total of 36 dead and dozens injured.
