TV
- RuPaul teases Drag Race UK will continue “for many years to come”
The
future of Drag Race UK is sounding bright already
We
haven’t even seen the first season of the
British version of the hit American competition
show yet, but Mama Ru is already hedging
her bets on more seasons heading our way in the
coming years.
In
the latest episode of RuPaul and Michelle
Visage’s podcast What’s The Tee? the two
icons discuss all things London, including their
time in the big city to film Drag Race UK, which
Michelle promised fans will be “thrilled”
with.
“Oh
my goodness, when they see this show, they are
going to flip. And I predict that we will be doing
this English edition of Drag Race for many years
to come,” RuPaul teased of the show’s future.
“I
think also, audiences around the world are going
to start to require the English version, because
it’s different, it’s the same but it’s
different. There’s a different tone.”
Explaining
what makes the new version different from the
American original, Michelle added: “There’s an
English-ness, a British-ness about it, you can
feel it. And I think that’s giving it a
different life, and a charm that the American one
doesn’t have.
“Although
the American one obviously is the original and the
best there is, it’s got a different charm to it,
and I think people are going to fucking love it.”
RuPaul
also offered an insight into the behind-the-scenes
workings of the show, praising the production crew
and joking that the British version ran “so
smoothly” in comparison to the American version.
“What
was really weird is that the people behind the
scenes, it ran so smoothly. I don’t know what
was different about it, I don’t know what that
means, but I wanted to get to the bottom of it, as
to why it ran so smoothly,” she said.
“By
law we were required to take two tea breaks, and a
lunch break, and we were still done when the sun
was up. And we started late! Because I wasn’t
even in the makeup chair until 8 o’clock on the
mornings.”

It
was recently reported that Cheryl will join RuPaul
and Michelle Visage on the judging panel as a
special guest judge, as well as British comedians
Alan Carr and Graham Norton, who will rotate every
episode like Ross Matthews and Carson Kressley.
The
highly-anticipated British spin-off will debut on
BBC Three later this year and will run for eight
episodes. It wil reportedly have ten queens –
none of which have been confirmed so far.
We
recently compiled a list of 14 gag-worthy queens
we’d like to see on the UK edition of Drag Race.
